Favorite Neighborhoods

These areas top my list for their mix of great restaurants, street art, shopping, and atmosphere:

The Gulch

A chic, modern district with luxury high-rises, trendy spots, rooftop bars, and a cosmopolitan vibe. It’s super walkable and full of contemporary architecture, stylish boutiques, and art galleries.

Highlights: Snap photos with colorful murals (including the famous angel wings), enjoy Nashville hot chicken and soul food, catch live music.

Rooftop bars: LA Jackson at Thompson’s Hotel or the W Hotel.

Live music: Station Inn.

Breakfast classics: Arnold’s Country Kitchen (605 8th Ave S) and Biscuit Love (316 11th Ave S).

Restaurants: Peg Leg Porker, The Pub, Party Fowl, Del Frisco’s, Bar Louie, Luogo, Milk & Honey, Sunda, The Iberian Pig, Kanye, Virago.

Edgehill

A smaller gem nearby with solid dining options.

Try: Barcelona and Sadie’s—both excellent restaurants.

12 South

Trendy and upscale yet laid-back, with boutique shopping, renowned eateries, coffee shops, and vibrant murals. It has a warm, community feel with historic homes, modern spots, and Sevier Park for outdoor relaxation.

Restaurants: Urban Grub (great for lunch/dinner), Buttermilk Ranch (a must for breakfast/lunch).

Sevier Park (3021 Lealand Ave, Nashville, TN 37204) — A peaceful green space with trees, lawns, a creek, walking paths, community center, and historic house.

Five Points – East Nashville

(11th St, Clearview Ave, Woodland St) — Eclectic and artistic with a bohemian vibe. It’s the creative heart of East Nashville, packed with indie shops, music venues, galleries, restaurants, bars, and coffee spots. Walkable and lively, especially during events like the Tomato Art Fest.

Parks & Relaxed Spots

Centennial Park (2500 West End Ave) — One of my absolute favorites for a peaceful walk. Like New York’s Central Park, it’s a lush escape from the city buzz. The standout is the full-scale Parthenon replica (Nashville’s “Athens of the South” nod to its universities and arts scene). Enjoy events like outdoor movies, concerts, festivals, swing dancing, or Shakespeare shows. Feed ducks in the lake, grab a snow cone, or explore inside the Parthenon.

Music & Historic Areas

Music Row (16th/17th Ave S, around Division St and Music Square) — The historic core of Nashville’s music industry, lined with old homes turned into recording studios, labels, and agencies. It has a relaxed vibe with nearby cafes—perfect for music lovers.

Live music spots: Losers Bar & Grill (super popular), Tin Roof on Demonbreun (1516 Demonbreun St—not as crowded as Broadway).

Other Must-See Tourist Spots

Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge (422 Broadway) — A legendary honky-tonk since the 1960s with three stages for nonstop live music.

Nashville Riverfront Park (100 1st Ave N) — Scenic green space along the Cumberland River with views of Nissan Stadium, Fort Nashborough, Bicentennial Park, and Ascend Amphitheater. Great for fresh air, family fun, free concerts, and festivals.

Downtown Nashville — The lively heart of Music City with top restaurants, hotels, and attractions like the Frist Art Museum, Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium, and Tennessee Performing Arts Center. Explore on foot or by horse-drawn carriage; hit Honky Tonk Highway for live music after dark.

Ryman Auditorium (116 5th Ave N) — The “Mother Church of Country Music” since 1892—home to legends like Elvis and Johnny Cash. Take a tour or catch a show.

Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum (222 5th Ave S) — Dive into country music history with artifacts, videos, and live performances—from Elvis to Dolly.

Grand Ole Opry House (2802 Opryland Dr) — Iconic stage for country, bluegrass, folk, and more—featuring multiple artists per show.

Radnor Lake (1160 Otter Creek Rd) — Serene nature preserve with hiking trails, a pristine lake, and wildlife (deer, otters, birds). Ideal for a peaceful escape.

Tennessee State Capitol (600 Charlotte Ave) — Historic Greek Revival building (no dome!) from 1859, still in use today. Free guided tours hourly (Mon-Fri); see statues, graves of President Polk, murals, and chandeliers.

Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park (600 James Robertson Pkwy) — Scenic tribute to Tennessee history with monuments, a carillon playing the Tennessee Waltz, walkways, native plants, and summer concerts.

Johnny Cash Museum (119 3rd Ave S) — One of the world’s largest collections of Johnny Cash artifacts.

Belmont Mansion (Acklen Ave & Belmont Blvd) — Antebellum home of Adelicia Acklen—tour the historic furnishings and learn about 19th-century Southern life.

Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum (401 Gay St) — Honors musicians across genres with interactive exhibits and a Grammy showcase.
